Version 0.9.0 Released

The most important feature of the new version is the ability to specify custom time filters. It was requested by many users and finally got implemented. Now you can browse time records and summaries for any given period of time.
"Rename" menu item is now replaced with "Properties". In "Properties" dialog you can associate a project tree item with an external hyperlink. This is useful, for example, if you have an external bug-tracking tool and would like to open a bug description just by double-clicking to the item. Naturally you can find other uses of this feature.

TimeCult 0.8.2: Another Maintanance Release Published

This release contains several bug fixes:

Export to CSV of task name missed a text qualifier (bug #2724981).
Correct time calculations when start/end time of some records in journal do not belong to the same day (bugs #2107359, #2494172). When a filter is applied some records in the journal may be displayed as partial (filtered) showing only time which fits the currently selected filter.
Wrong boundary time was set for quick time sheet (visible only for those cases where start/end time were close to midnight).
If there were two tasks with the same name, only one of them was shown.

TimeCult 0.8.1 Released

The most essential new feature is an ability to hide completed/cancelled tasks and activities. That makes a project tree much smaller and easier to observe. The tasks and activities are hidden based on their completion (cancellation) date/time and the currently selected filter. For example, tasks which were finished before the current week will not be shown if "This week" filter is on but you can bring them up by selecting "All", for example. To enable the feature you have to go to "Tools"->"Options" and check the "Hide Closed Items" box. In the future the same thing can be applied also to projects. But this requires that projects can be closed too: the feature yet to be implemented.
Another new feature worth mentioning is a long-awaited "autosave". For now the autosave period is hardcoded to 30 seconds. Later a special field (autosave interval) will be added to options. To enable the feature you have to check "Autosave" box in "Options" dialog.

This release contains three major feature updates:

There is a new "Activity" element. It's a repetitive task done regularly (for example, every day) or on demand. For example, "Check customers' responses". Of course you can always create a new task every time there is a need to do something like that but it appears to be inconvenient and you may end up with a long list of similar tasks which do not bring any value.
The list of flagged items (tasks) has been replaced with a dialog allowing to browse tasks by different statuses (flagged, in progress, finisished, etc.). It makes much easier to find tasks which may need attention, not only flagged ones.
There is a concept of a file locking. If the file is opened by one instance of TimeCult, it can not be opened by another one. This prevents simulataneous conflicting updates of the same file.

as many of you have noticed I submitted a new version 0.7.1 to sourceforge.net some time ago. All three packages (win32 setup, .zip and source) can be found here. Due to a lack of time I forgot to add a note to project news. Nevertheless a status of 0.7.1 is the same as of any other previously released version.

It's Time for Java 6

The next TimeCult version 0.7.0 to be released soon will be based on Java 6. Since Java 6 is backwards compatible with Java 5 (or Java 1.5.0), all the previous TimeCult versions will continue to work with Java 6. So perhaps it's time to plan a migration to the newer JVM. It's not that Java 6 is absolutely necessary for new TimeCult features, Java 6 simply has been out for a long enough time and has had several updates already.
You can find the latest Java Runtime Environment here. Currently it is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 4.

Timecult 0.5.2 released

As many of you have probably noticed, I published a new release 0.5.2 of TimeCult. Unfortunately I have had no time to update project pages yet but I will do it soon. At the mean time you can get the new version here. Some of you may also notice that I really take your comments into account. So the comments are welcome as always. There are many changes in version 0.5.2 among which tray icons for main window and running timers with quick start menu, help system (still under development), alphabetic ordering and cut-and-paste functionality for tasks and projects and other. I hope you like them.

TimeCult 0.5.1 Released

There are a couple of new features: a user is able to flag important tasks and browse flagged items. This is helpful when you want to concentrate on certain tasks and find them easily without a need to go through the whole project/task tree; it is also possible to copy and paste data from time log (now called "journal") or summary page to Microsoft Excel, OpenOffice.org Calc or a similar application via clipboard. TimeCult version 0.5.0 undergoes final testing. It has no new features but a different SWT-based UI and some minor improvements. Here is the first screenshot:

Migration to SWT

I rejected the idea of porting TimeCult to .NET. Instead I stopped my choice on SWT, basically to reuse as much existing Java code as possible. This means that TimeCult will remain Java-based. New SWT version 0.5.x will look just as any native (Windows) application. Its functionality will be very much the same as in version 0.4.0 except some minor improvements. Currently approximately 50% of migration to SWT has been accomplished and some screenshots may appear soon. Version 0.5 is planned to be released in mid February next year. Unfortunately my tight work schedule doesn't allow to do it any earlier than that.

TimeCult 0.4.0 Released

TimeCult 0.4.0 binary distribution has been published at SourceForge.net. Check the project Web site. The distribution contains timecult.exe Windows executable which runs a JVM and launches the application. Linux users may use the following command line to run TimeCult: java -jar timecult-je.jar. I have used Launch4j to generate the program launcher.
You may notice also a new application logo. Thanks to developers of Inkscape which helped to make it.

TimeCult is a new name for the old Dyadix TimeTracker application. There is also a project reserved at sourceforge.net. Project pages are under construction currently.
